Characteristics

Size: 1/2 to 5/8 in length and a overall span of 1 3/8 inch.

Color: The Brown Recluse is commonly light brown in color. Sometimes called the violin spider, this characteristic is a violin shape on its back. Also an obvious identifiable characteristic are the 6 eyes arranged in three pairs in front of the head.

Behavior: Basically the name Brown Recluse identifies its behavior. Reclusive in nature, this spider tends to stay away from highly active areas. They have been known to crawl into boxes, shoes, or even bedding. There defense mechanism of course is its very venomous bite. Its bite is very painful and can cause tissue to deteriorate. If bitten by this spider medical attention should be sought out immediately.

Habitat: They tend to nest in corners of garages, crawl spaces under the home, or in areas where there is an ample of pests to feed on. They tend to nest in areas that are not very active by humans.

Tips for Control: Organization is key when dealing with Brown Recluse infestation. Clothing, bedding and storage areas should be inspected and organized on a regular basis.
