Characteristics

Size: Carpet beetles are very small. Adults grow to approximately 3-4 mm.

Color: Black covered with white, brown, orange and yellow spots.

Behavior: A menace that seem to appear out of nothing. They can wreak havoc on stored woolen fabrics, feathered hats and preserved animal skins.

Habitat: They are often found on window sills in the home. Outside they tend to nest where there is an ample supply of animal hair or feathers to feed on. Also found under carpets and rugs where minute fabrics are collected.

Top Tips for Control: Of course sanitation is key when dealing with this pest. Use caution when storing clothing in basements or attics, make sure the clothes are dry-cleaned and stored in plastic bags. Mothballs can be a beneficial prevention for these type of pests.
