clothesmoth

Characteristics: Shining golden tan with roughened tufts of reddish brown scales on the head.

Size: The size varies from about 1/2 to 3/8 inch.

Behavior: Unlike most moths, this and related species are not attracted to light. They retire to dark places so their presence is often unnoticed until larval damage is severe. Feeding on all types of fur or wool-containing products including clothes, carpet pads, animal skins and the unattended tennis ball.

Tips for Control: Again like the Carpet Beetle sanitation is key. Laundering or dry-clean clothing and store in plastic bags. Mothballs can help rid these moths as well. Have your Anchor Pest Control technician offer suggestions to control this pest.
